Our Homes - The Spinney

Our purpose is to provide a high quality standard of care and accommodation for 4 young people of either gender who are 'Looked After' by Local Authorities, and require accommodation for the period of time they have to live away from their families or other primary care giver. The age range  of children looked after is 10-18 years but will also be considered on an individual case basis as part of the matching process and detailed impact risk assessment which takes into account the current residents and the dynamics they present.

Activities at The SpinneyThe Spinney provides an holistic approach to providing positive outcomes for young people, in particular those who display challenging behaviour, or who may have been subject to abuse, such as emotional, physical, neglect or deemed to be vulnerable or involved with sexual exploitation, this is inclusive of behaviours associated around child sexual exploitation.

We also consider mild to moderate self-injurious behaviour based on the frequency of self-harm, severity, triggers and the current mix of young people within the home.  Additional multi-agency resources are available to the home such CAMHS, CASUS and CAN should they be required to meet the individual’s needs.

It is our vision to work in such a way as to support young people in identifying the reasons for their behaviours and find solutions.  We do this through a range of methods, including direct work and building relationships. With a staff team committed to maintaining a positive home and achieving positive outcomes for young people and improving their life chances we get good results.

Our young people have raised money for charities, including Daddys with Angels and Combat Stress.  The home is now looking at supporting further charities, such as the Christmas Shoebox Appeal and plans are being made to walk up Mount Snowdon to raise money for charity.

The young people take part in lots of different activities including going to the cinema, Boost (a trampoline park), Adrenaline Alley (a skating and BMX park), Gauntlet (riding and fixing bikes) and shopping (every girl’s dream!). Activities can also include looking after the chickens (young people particularly like collecting the eggs) and taking part in the performing arts.

The staff enjoy working at the home and with the young people, supporting them to achieve their aspirations in life.

‘You can tell the staff care and they do everything to make us safe and happy.’

‘I love living at The Spinney!’
